here is the new GUIDELINES for how to be a great contributor on Spock:
Community Guidelines
The following community guidelines are in place to help you understand what it means to be a great contributor on Spock. Don't forget that your use of Spock is subject to these Guidelines and our Terms of Service.
Three Rules for Creating Great Content
Be Engaging
Try to add content that others will find interesting. This increases how informative a search result becomes, as well as the likelihood that others will vote on your contributions.
Be Relevant
Try as much as possible to make your contributions accurate and relevant. Content that is relevant is less likely to be voted down, and makes for a more meaningful search experience.
Be Respectful
There are a lot of people on Spock, all with different opinions and sensibilities. Make sure to stop and think about how your contributions may be viewed by others.
What to do
Use your full real name
Create your account using your real name. This not only lets others find you, but it lets others recognize you when you make great contributions.
Fill out your search result
Filling out your search result allows you to shape how other people will find you. Go ahead -- upload a picture, add the RSS feed for your blog or the link to your MySpace page.
Show off your knowledge
The best members of Spock contribute lots of information to our site. Don't be afraid to add content. If you make a mistake you can always change it.
Be Specific
Try to describe people uniquely, it makes search more relevant. For example, if you are tagging Halle Berry, the description "2002 Best Actress Academy Award Winner" is better than just "Academy Award."
Vote!
Go ahead - Vote on tags, pictures, and links as much as you like. Every time you cast a vote you are helping to make search results more relevant for yourself and others.
Bring out the best in people
Let your friends know what information you think brings out their best by adding content to their page. They will appreciate it, and may return the favor.
Keep Spock Clean
Flag content that shouldn't be on Spock, and include an explanation of why it should be removed. You can flag search results that aren't of real people, inaccurate names, offensive or private information, and more.
What Not To Do
Here is how it works: If you add content that is not in the spirit of Spock, the content will be flagged and removed and we will send you a warning. If you continue to add inappropriate content we will terminate your account.
Don't forget the children
Take the opportunity to filter your content responsibly. If you would hesitate to show your contributions to a child that means it needs to be filtered. Ask yourself that question as you add tags, pictures, relationships, and web links.
Don't add content that is illegal or prohibited
Don't post information that violates a copyright, trademark, trade secret, or patent. Especially in the case of pictures make sure you have the right to upload pictures before doing so!
Don't upload pictures that involve nudity
There are lots of sites on the internet where this is welcome. Spock isn't one of them.
Don't violate the privacy of others
Posting or distributing personal information about others such as phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses etc. is strictly prohibited. If we catch you doing this we will terminate your account immediately without warning.
Don't harass people
Spock is a search engine, not a place for you to vent your frustrations or push a personal agenda. Don't post information that is harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, hateful, or libelous to others. If we receive a valid complaint about harassment, we will terminate your account.
Don't impersonate others
Don't create false or fictional search results on Spock, and more importantly don't impersonate other people or entities. Spock is a search engine for finding real people; we will delete your account if we find you have created a fake search result.
In Conclusion
We've drafted these guidelines to ensure that our community remains a place that is focused on building the world's most comprehensive, accurate, and relevant people search engine. If you feel like you cannot abide by these guidelines, we would appreciate it if you not use Spock. If you have any questions or suggestions we are always excited to hear your feedback.
