Is it a MUST to be registered on LinkedIN for one who's already in Social Networking?
Preface: I do not speak about those poor people that are outside of Social Networking. From my point of view those are outside of the modern life and I am not interested to discuss their problems at all ;)
Instead, those already experienced with Social Networking "have surprised" me a bit yesterday.
Some my strong believes:
- Linkedin is not exactly about Social Networking but it's a very popular Knowledge Management tool and it has a great value for the modern society!
I hate the latest "new cool features" of LinkedIN such as discussions, they look stupid there and they're unneeded for that Platform from my point of view. At the same time I understand that LinkedIN owners have to earn money ;), but it's another story.
God Bless LinkedIN!
- Ecademy/ Soflow/ OpenBC/ etc,- it's all about Social Networking on-line, those tools are very useful but it's not the same as LinkedIN, they're too different, they're exactly for Social Networking on-line.
I was always sure that the people that know what Social Networking means are all registered on LinkedIN for sure plus in one of on-line Social Networks by choice.
BUT it's not true!
Even if I can not understand why it happen, but there are lots of people that are actively (!) using, let's say, Ecademy, they advertise their businesses there, they find business partners and so on, but they're NOT registered on LinkedIN! ;)
This is the situation I could not imagine until I met the facts... yesterday, when I was checking just for fun some of my OpenBC's(now Xing) connection, if they're all presented on LinkedIN, and if their profiles there are the same well-rounded as OpenBC profile...
So the revelation was that there are lots of people that are (still?) NOT registered on LinkedIN ;)
I could not believe it's possible, I thought it's just "a mistaken choice" of person, but then I checked randomly my connections on Soflow, Ecademy, etc etc,- and you know what?! yes, you know what!
The question is how could those people live in Social Networking-oriented society but be not registered on LinkedIN? It's OK for those poor people that still use their paper notebooks for calling their "trusted connections", but if one is selling some services through Ecademy... how can this one do not use LinkedIN, at least to be registered there?!
I think it's a big mistake for those people.
OpenBC, Ecademy, Soflow and similar are very good for on-line Social Networking. The real-life Clubs like MilanIN (are there many others) are very effective for real-life connections to generate the real business, but (!) LinkedIN is the greatest ever Network of Profiles!
Well, who I am talking with? Is there anybody out there? ;)
myself only? :=)
P.S. And one should understand I am talking here ONLY about Social BUSINESS Networking, not the funny platforms like MySpace, YouTube and similar which are also great but have no relations with Business Connections so it's not needed to relate them with LinkedIN in any sense...
I am now checking my contacts from doostang.com: seems to be the most professional and most powerful Network (too much career/HR oriented but why not?!).
I found that 90% of my connections there are already LinkedIN Members, and well, 80% of those are already my connections on LinkedIN. The others have been just invited. Why not? ;)

The next turn for checking contacts will be my Academici Network, but it's not today for sure.
It's a crazy Friday at the office today :(

Dear Andrey,

I agree 'bout a/m. But there's a point of view that I feel u did not take into right consideration, if u allow me to express my personal opinion: I don't know u personally yet but I feel u're a really skilled and clever person, this is the reason why I found correct to write my personal comments on it.

Even if it seems that nobody's can live or work without internt, not everybody's still so skilled in IT world and its means of communicatin'(includin' business networkin' connection as linked in or xing and others).

And this doesn't mean that all those people not aware about useful instruments "are outside of the modern life".

If somebody'd inform them of their existeance, maybe there'll be more users than now....

Just to better explain what I mean: I'm 38 (not so young - sigh - but not so old!!!!).

My lucky's always been I'm curios and my need of communicatin' with others has always been a must.

When I met my boy friend who's at present working in EMC (where information live), just to have the chance of talkin' with him of his job (and the priority was understandin' what he was talkin' 'bout ) - I started to get interested in IT world and all their products, with the real desire to learn and talk (and understand) his language in that field.

Now, when we go in these big trade centre, sometimes he'd like to see - just for changin'- houses articles f.i. (U know, those boring things like frigos and kitchens and wash-dishes, etc...)

Well, I go directly to hardware and software shop site.

I listen to the employees givin' explications to other clients and, often, I do realize they're saying a lot of nonsenses (they're not aware 'bout what they're sellin': don't u think this is unbelivable?).

Sometimes it's me who's helpin' clients by givin' technical explicatiions.... Just to be of help and for pleasure.

But before knowin' my partner I wasn't quite aware 'bout the difference between hardware and software (just to give u an idea I'm talkin' of 1 year and half ago). Not ten years.

Now I read PC Professionale, asked gifts for birthday or xmas, like notebook, palmare (I choose a dell) compact digital photocamera (choose a sony)...

This revolution was due to "The power of love"? (like that 80's song sucess?)

I'm startin' to get sufficiently informed 'bout smart phone with qwerty, gprs and umts connections, includind navigator with touch screen, phone, photocamera, blackberry, usb, external hard disk, and quite able in comparing the differences between costs and services offered by each company producin' each articles.

I think I'm a professional woman: I started using PC by myself when I was 20 (my first one, the first love I've never forgot, was a Mac). And I do live in my time.

What I always felt was, that all of u workin' in the IT world, acted like a sort of special & private club - not open to get the others in, but only to comunicate with your similar: talkin' your own language, and not so available to let all the other normal human beeing, at least to try to be part of it (or just understandin' what u were talkin' about).

Don't u think that when u write " I do not speak about those poor people that are outside of Social Networking. From my point of view those are outside of the modern life and I am not interested to discuss their problems at all ;)" it's a little bit snob and not correct?

Skilled and professional people (age 50 fi) might be extremaly able in their fiels but not so used in usin' internet and or build social networwing.

For sure this is my personal opinion and pls excuse me if 've been so sincere in expressin' my ideas on that.

After discoverin' this new world and how the cleverin' use of internet and potential help he's able to give me, I'm on linked in, Milan In, xing, MICE, and other business networks (especially related to my field): not only for seeking 4 a job but just to be updated on news and have the chance of enlarging the number of people I can meet and profit of their experience 4 askin' them sugestions, advices, exchange ideas and become a better professional and human person: it's always useful to learn, and I never stop doin' it.

Also wanna add that I don't like chattin' or use links just 4 meetin' friends or the man of my life (even if i think everybody's free to do what they like, but always honestly for sure).

In order to add a great value to our club and our members, why all of u IT skilled in - don't u give us some basic information 'bout how's the better and right way to use this ever running faster and faster way of communicatin'?

I know there's a special forum on the site, but I'd prefer of not using a dictionary when readin' it.

FI, what about an e-room where addin' all latest updatd info or useful RSS or news, instead of using a personal blog (even is useful, nothin' to say 'bout it)?

I know u'll need an hosting server for it, but I'm sure that all of u IT skilled people will find out a solution for that.

Wish u won't misunderstandin' me: my opininions on your article was not a critic but tried - as far as my personal experience is concerned - to give useful suggestions to improove and/or develop/increase a more skilled IT potential knolewdge of all members in our club. This might be a trasure for all of us for the growin' of the club itself, don't u think so?

Will take a look at the site you mentioned in your article.

Thanks 4 your kind attention.

Mary

ps. what's new 'bout the club in rome? I know there're a lot of people that might be interested in.
