We know it's not so easy to be the first breaking the ice! We also know Ubuntu is not so good as the GNU/Linux could be (right, Michael? ) But anyway somebody should have been started this wave!
Dell made waves in the tech media when it announced recently that it would be including pre-loaded Linux on certain PC and laptop offerings — and this after declaring that it wasn’t yet ready to do so. One of the computer maker’s hang-ups the first time customers requested pre-loaded Linux was that it would be too difficult to support all of the Linux distros and impossible to choose one that would make all of the customers happy.
It seems the powers-that-be at Dell have changed their minds again. Ubuntu’s new “Feisty Fawn” is the operating system of choice, according to ZDNet. Customers will also have the option of purchasing support from Canonical, the company behind the Ubuntu distribution. Financial details of the agreement have yet to be disclosed.
Apart the chatting about the commercial "mystics", for us, Linux users, the good thing is that whatever distribution dell could choose and whatever brand could do that in place of Dell, there will be more and more support for hardware with specs and APIs.
Abs. agree with you, Michael. That's the beginning of the New Era, could we call it "Windows-FREE" era? :) we'll see it soon!

Maybe is the beginning , but some shadows remains, on DELL decision , it seems that DELL have also decided to team up the Novell-MS consortium,ad DELL is cominq to buy Linux from.. Microsoft , ( Suse Enterprise ) with technical support and legals.
So Dell take two roads, in one to sell PC with UBUNTU ( by popular demand ) and the other , more "commercial" for servers and high-end PC.
Keep the eyes opened!

Ciao Luca, it's a good suggestions to keep the eyes opened! :) Although I am not talking here about the Religion, if it's M$ or Linux, I am talking about that there will be the CHOICE, finally, and the people will decide.
Listen, I need to buy the new Laptop but I'll never happy to share my income also with B.Gates because I'll anyway cancel Windows and install Linux (the same Ubuntu) there. So WHY should I be restricted to pay to B.Gates for the Windows to-cancel?
If I'll get the chance,- it's another story! Then I'll think further what's the strategy for DELL... but today the only thing I am worrying about seriously- is how to buy a good laptop (not Mac)- without Windows. This seems to become possible soon!
about the rest, I'd probably agree with you... ;)
