Who has viewed my profile?,- the new feature of Linkedin platform

For those who did not notice yet there is a new feature available on LinkedIn, Who has viewed my profile?, - you should just login to LinkedIn and you'll see the new info area in the right upper corner of your Home Page.

There is an URL to click... and you won't really get anything useful, except the very generic statistics :)

like in my case it was- "Your profile has been viewed by 78 people in the last 1 week, including:"
with following list of  "Someone in the XXX Category".

A very useful and complete information, do not you think so? :)

Then I get to study how it works and found that in order to make this info useful, EACH USER must now change the personal Profile's settings for this feature, switching from the default "Only show my anonymous profile characteristics, such as industry and title" to "Show my name and headline" for the "What will be shown to other LinkedIn users when you view their profiles?" feature.

Otherwise we'll continue seeing a "very useful" list of "Anonymous from a category".

On the next step, I believe, LinkedIn will make this feature a PREMIUM one, as the most other on-line Platforms do.

And we'll now think about to implement a similar feature for our Platform, that's based on the Social-Groupware.org Project...

  1. Actually, it seems that this feature has not yet been enabled for all users; techcrunch notes that if your profile hasn't been viewed recently, the link doesn't appear:

    http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/05/10/see-whos-reading-your-linkedin-profile/

As you allude to above, there is an inherent conflict between privacy needs and the value of a premium service. LinkedIn correctly asks users to opt-in to displaying their navigation history (views of other peoples profiles). LinkedIn will have to more prominently convince non-premium members why they should give up their privacy if LinkedIn expects to offer profile views as a premium service.

Viadeo got this right with their reciprocality approach: you can see my data if I can see yours.

For those who do want to tell people that you've seen their profile, click on the link for "Account & Settings" found at the top of any page.

Once on the account page, search (ctrl-f) for "Profile Views" which is in the section "Privacy Settings"

    Adjust as appropriate.

  2. Thank you for the precision, Sean!
The feature should work exactly in this way, however we'll see what there will be changed (if), when LinkedIn decide to add this service, probably with some cheating, to the PREMIUM package.
