That's the future: Instant Mesh Networks!

I think the comments are not needed until you see it yourself. Just press "play" and you'll see THE FUTURE: http://www.firetide.com/MeshInMotion/

The after-you-saw-it comments: It was not a promotion of feretide or any other company!

I know that lots of great start-ups and mature companies are now working on “something similar” or just the parts of this to-become-reality infrastructure. I have just found this "cartoon" that greatly puts together the discussions I am (deeply) involved in the last half of year :)

Well, I did not find it myself, Alessandro has shown it to me. He is another person activelly interested in such things.

wireless, fixed/mobile convergence, wi-fi, wi-max, social networking, digital communication, geo-services, mesh networks, VoIP, IPTV, SIP/IMS, FON, bla-bla-bla... the whole world is gonna become a one big network of nodes and services!

I do not know if it's good or bad for our DNA :), but its surely great for the people with profiles/ experience like of myself or of Michael (a piece of self-promotion, but why not?)

SEO update: Milan-IN is the NUMBER ONE Business Club in Milan, in according to Google and MSN Search

It's nice to confirm that MilanIN has reached the top search positions with Google and MSN, as the leading Business Club of Milan. And we gonna to stay there!

Check this out- Google's query and MSN's one. I am very glad that also MSN respects us so much, even we did not yet pay attention to MSN-level optimization. We're (still) working mostly with Google tricks, so probably there were my friends helping us with MSN? :)

It's important that the world knows MilanIN today as the NUMBER ONE Business Club of Milan, and we hope we're really the best Club ever.

At MilanIN everyone will have a chance for self-actualization and self-expression, since MilanIN is a community-based project. Here we employ the innovative personal involvement approach. Each Club Member can contribute to the Club and to earn from it. Here everyone is also invited to be part of the Club and to participate in MilanIN's Org-Teams!

Wasn't it said enough to join MilanIN now ?

There is something new about Social Networking- Plazes, from Berlin

Plazes is a social network site with the added dimension of location tracking. Plazes automatically detects your location and connects you with people or places nearby.

Well, it's something fresh, something (probably) interesting!

The only thing is that I have a strange feeling about the FON's presense there... I do not know why, it's in the design or the navigation structure or ... I do not know, but it looks like those projects are in some way related! (please do not kill me if it's written somewhere but I just did not find it )

OK, I am now a registered user of Plazes. Someone wants to play? ;)

2007 Web Predictions

The original article (very long) is this one: 2007 Web Predictions.

It's for sure not an article of "tonight", I just want to make it visible for MilanIN-ers. It's really nice to read those "predictions", I hope it's true also for those not so much screwed with Internet but just normal people.

And it's also nice becaue there are available 2006 Web Technology Trends (as they say "to reflect on what has happened in Web Technology during 2006") from the same team, so one could entertain himself a bit :)

RSS, Structured Data

  • RSS will go mainstream in a big way

Enterprise

  • Web Office continues to ramp up

Web Development

Search and Online Advertising

  • a better, more robust online ad model

Microsoft vs Google

  • Microsoft's Windows Live services
  • WebOS /GoogleOS
  • Open Source Desktops

Browsers

Multimedia

  • Internet-based TV
  • P2P (2007 will undoubtedly be a good year for P2P)
  • Virtual worlds
  • Virtual Money

Consumer Apps

  • online real estate market
  • social networks: Could social networks prove to be anti-social? (too much time spent)

International Web

  • OLPC: One Laptop Per Child
  • Broadband continues to grow
  • WWW expands internationally (need to read in the article)

Mobile

  • VoIP space will really hot up
  • Mobile Web may be the big story of 2007

P.S.

Courtesy of mobile Web expert Rudy De Waele, here are 10 specific trends for mobile Web in '07:

  1. Flat fees will become more affordable bit by bit.
  2. Thus, more user-generated content will become available to the phone; opening the way for mobile users to start using new web/mobile 2.0 services on their phones, such as podcasting, RSS feeds, more user-generated content to upload and use.
  3. Big Media Youth Networks going mobile - MySpace, YouTube, MTV and many more players will resolutely go mobile; allowing users to upload pictures, videos and create/consume content straight from their mobile phones. And to share with friends (including mobile forwarding functionality).
  4. Mobile search - the big players will start positioning seriously in the mobile market (watch out for deals with carriers/operators and device manufacturers)
  5. Mobile ads - the market is growing at a rapid pace (just watch AdMob's ad views ticker box daily)
  6. QR codes will start to enter retail markets.
  7. Mobile image recognition will pop up in mixed marketing campaigns.
  8. Cell Phone memory card swapping - to exchange music/video files.
  9. Multiple network download hotspots become available in urban zones - enabling 'on the spot' mobile download and internet access possibilities via wi-fi/wimax/bluetooth/nfc/etc.... (all build in or available immediately)
  10. Rise of 'smart client' solutions, for convergence of content and application functionality on mobile devices in general.

Video: Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us

It's probably one of the best "explanations" of what the Web of tomorrow (today?) is. Just watch it, any comments are really useless.

Watch the Web 2.0 The Machine is Us/ing Us movie on YouTube.

Fring is about how to make mobile VoIP working on your Symbian!

Fring leverages the Internet connectivity traditionally used for mobile email retrieval and web browsing to provide mobile-VoIP communications so users can talk and instant message for free.

fring consumes ~ 5MB for 60 min of mobile-VoIP call; 0.05 KB per SMS (instant message)

See how it works here. Need to test it, but I believe Michael will comment on it much earlier than I find the time for playing with it :)

Marcello del Bono and 2PM support Innovation in Social Business Networking! (for MilanIN)

As I was speaking recently, MilanIN co-founders group and Marcello del Bono, are now working together to improve the Strategy Management ('Strategy Innovation') for MilanIN Project. It's a complex and I believe long-term collaboration, so we assume Marcello has become a MilanIN Strategy Coach/Tutor (although Marcello does not like the term).

And now there is an announcement about this collaboration on the web site of P2M. It says about this project for/with MilanIN:

- 2PM sta aiutando MilanIn a sviluppare e realizzare la strategia di crescita e innovazione. Per la prima volta in Europa un'organizzazione attiva nel Social Business Networking adotta un framework strutturato per la Strategy Execution.
(The English version is here)

Thank you Marcello, it's the great pleasure for all of us to work with you!

"The poor old boy turned 43 today": Happy Birthday, Thomas Power!

I believe everybody interested about Social (Business) Networking know who is Thomas Power! We first met on Ecademy few years ago, and since then we kept in touch.

I think that was quite intertaining and I would say very useful for me! I can imagine how busy is Thomas, but as well as I remember, he was ALWAYS answering my personal e-mails (probably I am the one "lucky"?).

So today is the Thomas's day, and I join the network of his contacts to say him:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THOMAS !!!

The Future of Social Networks (by Jenny Rose+Andrey Golub's comments)

I'll show you some extractions, the best quotes from my point of view. See the original article of Jenny Rise here.

One of Ecademy's founders, Penny Power, believes the key to building a successful social network is building emotional connections and a real sense of community. A website that just wows you with flashy tools will lose its appeal fast.

  • "Tools are just fads; communities and friendships evolve. Social networks have to become communities, and in order to do that they require a culture and values," Power says.
  • "What people want is intimacy and friendship, not just contacts. Being a name on a contact list is no different from being a business card in a rolodex.
  • "Knowing who you can learn from is what matters and what social networks should be about."

and there is something else very important

Predictions for the future

Jumping in: Tool-based sites such as LinkedIN and Xing will move towards building online communities with the introduction of facilities such as blogging.

Getting in on the act: The appeal of social networks will become so irresistible that most major business will try and buy into it in some way. Brands from all sectors will want to integrate into a pool of primed customers. Television companies are already encouraging viewers to post comments on plotlines in soap opera (ITV’s Emmerdale) and Kleenex has just launched a campaign with TV adverts encouraging online interaction from customers.

Choosing a platform: Social networks will become a sought-after method of tapping into niche markets. Companies will want to buy into them either for selling to, or recruiting its users. Facebook already has channels seeking staff for Microsoft and Ernst and Young, while Ecademy has just made links with Zubka.

Small groups mean big business: ‘Small groups’ and ‘clubs’ will be the web buzzwords of 2007. A chance to be part of a big network, but within the intimacy of a club or chat room, will drive web users to return to the same site more often by building an emotional connection.

Users will form strong allegiances to these clubs, just as they do with football clubs. More websites will offer users a chance to form clubs, as a way of building intimacy. Ecademy has operated a free club-building function for four years.

Grown up networking: The social networking Web 2.0 revolution has been led so far by the kids, but 2007 will see the over 35s getting on board. The BBC is rumoured to be introducing social networking sites for its most popular brands, such as Top Gear, Radio Times and BBC Good Food.

bla-bla-bla...

A note from myself:

Guys, Girls, MilanIN Members and those not (yet) Members: what's the first thought that comes to your mind after you have read the article (or at least those my extractions)?!

Yes, you're rrrrrrriiiigggghhhhttttt !

IT'S ALL ABOUT MILAN IN !

Please let me explain why it's all about MilanIN:

  • We are THE CLUB, we are THE COMMUNITY. And we've been the community when we had not yet a Web Platform (but only the old static web site of Pier Carlo);
  • We have THE TEAM behind the Club. Not just "some/good people that get some/good salary" for their working hours spent at the office :).
    • Have you ever seen another Social (Business) Network where normal Members also take part of the Org-Team? As Commitee Managers, as key resp. figures of the Club? Me not, it happens only here! :=)
  • We are the INNOVATORS in Social Business Networking;
  • Our Web Platform is an Open-Source solution, it's FREE also for the other Small Groups/Communities (!), and of course the partecipation in MilanIN eGroupWare project is opened to all competent humans! Therefore:
    • Soon or later this Project will become popular, and, I believe, lots of strong IT professionals will contribute to it! I will then have to buy lots of beer to my friend Michael (Michael Tabolsky), since it all happens also thanks to his great belief in this crazy idea!
    • Well, the idea is to propose for free our on-line platform for Social Business Networking to the others, to let them not to be dependent on the commercial platforms for Networking: Social Networking should be FREE? It belongs to communities? :) Of course if then one wants to earn some money on the good PREMIUM services- it's just the great idea! But the base Networking MUST be FREE and available to any group that wants to launch an own social networking (for closed-group or open) and would need an on-line platform to support it.

Of course we know we're not (yet) perfect. We know we should improve MilanIN from all its sides. And we know how to do it :) It's concerning all Project areas- from real-life Events Organization to Knowledge Sharing on our Web Platform. And we're improving day-by-day!

Probably (hmmm, exactly!) MilanIN IT Team still needs some work-forces to finish all that we have begun. If you're MilanIN Member- just check the Forum of IT Team or our internal task/bug tracking system to understand we already have some clear plans for several human-months of development and really lots of things currently in-progress!

Anyone non-IT and/or not (yet?)-MilanIN Member, still may help us, by donating to MilanIN, so we'll do our FREE Social Business Networking Platform even better. For MilanIN and the other Clubs/ Groups who need an on-line home for Social Networking.

Thank you for having read this article!

    my blog should represent...

There is a very nice statement of Dave Winer, that I found in the Blog of another MilanIN-er, Fabrizio Candoni (although if his Blog is still-to-do), we meet yesterday night at the Event of Michele Ficara at MilanIN...

I feel something similar, Pier calls me "MilanIN Blogger" but I am myself first of all, not a "press office", can I be myself? ;)

So here is what David said once for himself: “the unedited voice of an individual. It’s not an organization speaking. it’s informal. it’s Come as you are. We’re just folks here . We’re not concerned with typos or grammar errors, which remind readers that it’s just a human speaking” .

The Event of Feb-19, Michele Ficara

...DTT, P2P, IPTV, VoIP, broadband, e-commerce, interactive-TV, Web-TV, bla-bla-bla, lots of another modern technologies that mean some passion for another people, but Michele Ficara is a professional that works with technology as 'the product that must serve to the business'.
Hes life experience is very exciting: the man that had a chance to work with the most important political and economical structures of Italy, Michele knows personally several high-level decision makers of the Italian high-tech industry, also the people that make decisions on the country level.

Yesterday night, MilanIN-ers have heard the nice story of Michele Ficara, entrepreneur that was always among the first people in Italy to make money on the 'new technology', regardless if the technology is already mature or not-yet-stable, popular or restricted, if it works for  benefit of the 'technological progress' and for the 'whole world', or it's just for interests of a small group of people :)
It was an interesting and entertaining Event, and also the career level of MilanIN-ers that came there yesterday night (there were also few VIP guests), demonstrates that Michele is a very-very important man in this world :)
And it's good that because of envolvement of ASSODIGITALE and Michele's name itself (of course also thanks to the properly planned communication of MilanIN) we saw several new faces yesterday!

Thanks to everybody, including faithful MilanIN-ers, Pier Carlo e Silvia for the as usually great organization of this Event and very correct selection of Speakers for all self-presentation Events of the Club!

Ah, almost forgotten: we also spoke a bit about Blogosphere, and it was really the first time when the Speaker of MilanIN supports my idea of being an in-formal voice of the Club :=) Just the few good reasons from our VIP Speaker for 'why to Blog', and our President said: 'Ah, now I understand why Andrey annoys so often me with this kind of communication' ;)

The final comment, now a personal one, will be to thank (again) ASSODIGITALE for giving such an important visibility to the things we truly believe in: my latest article about Social Networking platforms, Communities behind them, and MilanIN as the Leader on the field thanks to Michele's re-publishing has got just the great numbers of viewers!

The public speech of Fabio Lisca during the Networking Day at BNI

Dear MilanIN-ers, I am sorry for a bit delayed article, the last week was the real chaos in my life :))

Well, it's still about the recent Event organized by BNI (the Italian chapter guided by Paolo Mariola),- Giornata Internzaionale del Networking.

I've also been there, following the advice of Marcello. There was also Sean Carlos, and probably some other MilanIN-ers, sorry if we did not meet each other if then...

And of course there was presented the famous evangelist of the "Culture of Networking", Fabio Lisca (well known also at MilanIN). And I have now his permission to publish one the document, it's almost the same presentation as for BNI-ers.

Enjoy the reading: Social Network Effectiveness (L'etica della Rete). And here is also for those missed Fabio's recent speech at MIP, it's a very similar material and it's the real presentation.

P.S. Here lety me show you some best pictures (supplied by Fabio Lisca) taken during the Networking Day Event of 1-th of February: 1, 2, 3, 4

But how many "best" resources there could be about MVNO in Italy?

With all my respect to DADA... and I understand, of course, the ambitions of some people and their desire to call the own web resource "the very first", or/and "the most complete"... but I think the "MVNO in Italy" is too hot topic for one to pretend to have "a guide" about it, like this one on guide.dada.net?

As far as I know, there are already few "first" and "complete" good (!)  resources about the "Mobile Virtual Network Operators" as the-next-big-thing of telecommunications in Italy:

    • MVNO Italia News
    • Mvno Forum - Il Primo Forum Italiano dedicato ai MVNO
    • And this geleral-aggregating resource: http://www.mvno.ws/, (The Italian Directory of MVNO - Mobile Virtual Network Operator), that puts it all together,- very good work!!!

And it's really strange that those "first" and "the most complete" sources have never found this easy web site- mvno.it :)

How do I know about mvno.it? Because it's the project of Alessandro Morelli, my friend and also "one of us" (MilanIN-ers). I believe that Alessandro should have filled his site with the good and fresh news about MVNO sector development in Italy, for sure follow his Blog there, and could probably open a Forum, to become another "first and complete" resource :)

And I really hope that soon the mvno.it of Alessandro Morelli will become the true MVNO.IT, why not? Alex, it's your turn I think :=)

P.S. While I was writing these strings, I found in the "Preferred links" corner of that "complete source" about MVNO at dada, a link to another (also "complete") resource, that's called, in its turn, "all about VoIP" (tutto su VoIP) :)

OK, now I understand the spirit of those authors... Anyway I wish good luck to everyone of them!

Our partnership agreement with Hosting Solutions is gonna end in few weeks, so we're looking for another ISP Partner(to provide directly), or Sponsor(to pay for) to supply with DEDICATED LINUX SERVER, to host Milan-IN's Web Site and our Groupware Collaboration Platform.
We are very satisfied with the quality of service provided to us by Hosting Solutions, it was a pleasure to have been their partner!

We'll be able to give the maximum visibility to your Brand/Service inside Milan-IN (~800 Members, by direct mailing, presentations during off-line Events, promotion on our Forum, etc.) and outside the Club, by declaring your company an official Partner of Business Club Milan-IN, of course by placing your banner to our Home Page, if needed to put few your static pages to our site that has a very high ranking from Google, probably organize some Networking Events together to increase visibility of your Brand, and so on.

We're very open and flexible! Please contact Andrey Golub (at manager.it AT milanin.com), for your proposals. Thank you in advance.

    DADA acquires Blogo.it

DADA acquires Blogo.it, I know you already know it :), I am just very happy that this time the "We're in Italy" did not work. Italy it driving ahead! (usually "we're in Italy" in this contest means that Italy has always its own way for the 'technological progress', but how will Pier Carlo say, it's already this off-topic for my Milan-IN's Blog )

Long life DADA with its new great Blogging engine!
Congratulation to the four "heroes of today": Marco Magnocavallo, Francesco Magnocavallo, Luca Lizzeri, Filippo Bassoli.

    Google-ads on Milan-IN: plz don't panic, it's just an experiment! :)

Well, this should have happened today or tomorrow, right? So we decided- it's better today. We'll need to perform some researches by playing with Google-ads marketing/sales program.
Nobody here truly believes that Milan IN web site should/could earn some good money with an on-line advertisements campaign. We do not have any heavy on-site traffic, we're a web site of Business Community, not an e-commerce project. Probably in the future the things will be changed,- who knows? :) But honestly we would prefer to play in the team with a strong brand-partner, having an agreement similar to those we have for hosting with Hosting Solutions, for our head-quarters with Halldis, for our operative temporary and dynamic location at MIP, and of course our lovely Networking Place at Pacino Cafe.

So, Google-ads are there, but you should not be afraid, we have it all under control! :)

Comunitazione.it- the new on-line partner of Milan-IN (thanks to Luca Oliverio)

I am very happy to present you Luca Oliverio, and his project Comunitazione.it. Luca is still not a Member of Milan-IN :), but it's only due to some delays with new members approval.

I know Luca still for few weeks, but I must admit it was enough for me to feel his great wish to "make things happen". So we will be now trying to help each other (Milan-IN and Comunitazione.it) in development of our projects.

We'll now start with the first small steps: we've put Comunitazione.it to the on-line partners section on our web site, and we now have our permanent account for the articles there (well, my personal but it's all about Milan-IN).

And please let me present you the Comunitazione.it by using their own official "Comunicato Stampa" (segnalato da Luca):

    Comunicato Stampa

Also there is the document PDF on our web site.

Francesco Rinaudo is our “hero of the day”: Milan-IN has got a sponsored hosting for the 2007!

It has taken us only one day, not more, to find the new hosting provider-partner for Milan-IN for the 2007 year. Great thanks to Francesco Rinaudo, Technical Manager of Level IP Italia S.p.A. (and, of course, to the mentioned Level IP Italia)!

We're now working on the collaboration agreement and then will immediately plan technical actions. Michael... I know... but this (journey ) happens only once-a-year!

News from 'The Social Business Club' (Call for investment, by Alexander Dort)

(Social Business Club is the first on-line partner of Milan-IN. I am publishing here the complete message of Alexander Dort, SocialBC Founder and COO, sent to the Club Members today)

    Dear all,
we're ready now to enter the next stage. Within the last few months we've integrated a lot of new features into the club and we're pretty sure to have build one of the most powerful Business Clubs. And – for sure – we've also some additional new features in the testing phase (such as a meta-network feature and a global shop-finder), which will be released very soon.

As you already know we've switched a few weeks ago to worlds first 100% free Premium Business Club to get most impact on this market segment and we've got really a lot of kind responses after doing that.

Now we want to go again a step ahead and share the whole club and our financial goals with you! This means that we're searching for investors that are interested in a financial support for our project. We're pretty sure to get most impact with our club if some basically investments were made. Our major needs are server enhancements to manage much more traffic in the near future, professional translation for the whole content into several languages and some new team members for management and administrational tasks.

In addition we'll spin off the Social Business Club from Alexander Dort - CMD (where it's implemented as a non-profit centre by now) and switch to an independent company.

If you're interested in such a venture investment or maybe some of your business and network partners then please don't hesitate to contact me!

    Kind regards
    Alexander Dort

Advantages for Members: Milan-IN is launching the new program (trusted business partner)

Advantages for Members: Milan-IN is launching the new program. Fabio Paron is the first supplier to the Club.

I'll leave the official launch of this Program to Pier Carlo, the President, but since the project is already in production (and new requests for participations arrive!), I'll now quickly explain the idea.

    ******
The "Advantages for Club Members" ("Vantaggi per i Soci") is the program oriented to Milan-IN Members, to involve the trusted Service/ Product providers in promoting and selling of their Services/ Products to Club Members on particular conditions, to make it attractive for Milan-INers ('special offer')!
    ******

If one Milan-IN Member, as a company or independent supplier, has a product/ service that, from his point of view, is targeting the other Milan-IN Members (middle/high career level workers, independent professionals, small/middle business owners), you may be interested to enter in contact with Milan-IN Administration to propose us evaluating your idea.
Once there is a good proposal and it's agreed, we'll put your offer to the "Members Advantages" section of our Web Site, so you'll get visibility non only for the Club Members (those will know about your offer from our direct communication), but also on the Web, thanks to very high SE rating of our web site.

We'll then properly communicate the subject of your offer to all Club Members, put your company info to Milan-IN's "official suppliers" catalog, and do some other actions in order to promote your service inside the Club/ on the Web.

Seems to be convenient for everybody, right?
If you agree with us,- please visit our Web Site, check what's Milan-IN is about, then on the 'Advantages for Club Members' page fill the form to communicate us your offer.
We'll consider it and ASAP contact you!

    Good Luck to everybody,
Good Networking to Milan-INers, and let's make the Business Networking even more Business-oriented... with Milan-IN!

So now it's finally there, and let it be? :=) "the most read" in the category "community"/ "social" on comunitazione.it
