btw, about your "acceptably unstable" Michael- should we be waiting for a bit, or it's the time to UPDATE- UPGRADE etc our laptops? ;)

I don't know who is your "we", but "you" has to wait a couple of month ;)
It "release often, release early" thing which can be "acceptable stable" but lacks obvious stuff.
If you want to take a closer look at it, then download this:

sorry I have no time to download the stuff just to take a look at it. You know I trust your opinion- so I'll be waiting still for 2 months. and then... who knows... maybe it's the time to switch FROM ubuntu to somewhere else :) [SUSE as you suggested]
we'll see, but now I really have no time to loose with it...
thanks for the update!

hmm... well, don't bother with the livecd too. 5 Krashes in first 10 minutes, got to reboot it. It's a pity I don't have time to make it work...
btw, for the switch, I am seriously considering it for about one month. Recent developments have shown that I just don't need the gentoo flexibility and fun. So a binary distribution can prove to be more productive for me. So I think to put in a spare disk with openSUSE for a few weeks.
